WHAT WE DO?

Solo Retreats aim to provide resources to people wanting the most potent experience in Solo or Solitary Retreat. There are no specific religious or spiritual inclinations behind this site, and it is just a free resource page for all who are interested from any walk of life. This site was initially created as we had many guests stay at our cabins and felt it would be a useful resource page for everyone wanting to do a solo retreat.

The practice allows you the space to connect to yourself by detoxing from devices and other people for a set period. We recommend a minimum of 3 nights and 4 days. The ideal time frame for a retreat would be 10 days.

By being with ourselves in this way, we repeatedly see the delusions of past and future fixations and come back to clarity. But if we don't see and accept reality as it is, how can we expect to know how to respond in a way that benefits us and our environment?

What is a Solo Retreat?

A Solo retreat is time spent away from your daily life in a dedicated space (usually in nature). It is a place where you are spending quiet, restful time alone.

Why should I do this?

Perhaps you are seeking or experiencing a profound change in your life. You feel called to learn new ways of being and relating to reality. You sense you are much more than your thoughts and want to explore this realisation. You perceive that your current way of being in the world could be more fulfilling. You sense that there is 'more to life' than this. You feel called to see yourself and life more clearly, without all the filters and conditioning you've accumulated over the years. You've realised that your habitual reactions and patterns are not serving your evolution or well-being. You feel restricted by your self-created identity and sense there is something far greater to discover. You are in a state of burnout, anxiety or high stress.

What is the difference between doing a Solo Retreat and other meditative or contemplative practices?

Most meditation practices teach us how to focus and calm the mind through techniques.

When you are alone in nature, however - you naturally get quiet and maintain silence... even if it takes a few days, the mind will eventually subside.

What is the schedule?

You set your own schedule for your retreat, which can be as vigorous or easygoing as you like. Again, you can go to our create your retreat page for guidance.

Who is this practice for?

This practice is for anyone who wishes to go deeper into the experience of being human, except for certain limiting physical disabilities or diagnosed psychiatric conditions. It's suitable for beginners, those who find meditation practice hard, or those who need further clarification.

Do I need any prior experience?

No.

Where does it take place?

It can be done in any conducive isolated environment. One such place is on our 9 acre property approx. 70 kms northwest of Sydney CBD in the beautiful blue mountains suburb of Kurrajong.

What challenges can I expect from the experience?

While everyone's experience is different and unique, we would like to share some of the more common experiences that may arise during your retreat;

Physical: If you are sitting all day, you will get a sore neck and back after a day or two. Having a good posture and a good meditation stool setup can help. Also, titrating between walking and sitting meditation can be very helpful.

Emotional/psychological: Everything from boredom, frustration, and tears to deep insight, clarity of purpose, forgiveness of self and others, increased humour, and a renewed love of life.

What can I expect in the days/weeks after a solo retreat?

Many report mental calmness and equanimity, a renewed appreciation of life, and a sense of internal resilience.

What do I need to know before arriving?

It is good to be intentional about many aspects of your solo retreat.

This includes your meals, clothing, creating a sacred space, creating a pledge, a schedule, insights journal and integrating your insights. Our Create Retreat page can help you with all of this.
